Physiotherapy - Treatment
The initial physiotherapy session will consist of an assessment and treatment. The assessment will be used to diagnose the problem, which will be fully explained during the session and where appropriate an explanation of the cause of the problem. This information will then be used during this session to identify the most effective techniques to use to resolve the injury.
Depending on the type of condition, the physiotherapy treatment can consist of a variety of different manual techniques including:
Joint mobilisation: A specific technique used to take a stiff joint through its available range working into the stiffness to loosen the joint.
Joint manipulation: A specific technique used to take a stiff joint to the end of its range and using a quick action to push through the stiffness
Soft tissue release: A type of stretching technique used to loosen tight/or spasmodic muscles.
Muscle energy techniques: A type of stretching technique which can either be used to loosen tight/spasmodic muscles or to improve a specific joint movement.
Transverse frictions: A technique used mainly on damaged tendons and ligaments to realign scar tissue fibres after an injury.
Where appropriate a home exercise programme will also be given to prevent future exacerbations of the problem..
